Stage 1 Public Engagement for Kowloon East smart city study launched
********************************************************************
The Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) of the Development Bureau today (November 7) launched the Stage 1 Public Engagement (PE) for "Developing Kowloon East into a Smart City District - Feasibility Study".

In the 2015 Policy Address, the Government announced that Kowloon East would be used as a pilot area to explore the feasibility of developing a smart city. Under the Study, the EKEO will formulate the smart city framework and advocacy statement, and propose and prioritise smart city initiatives and the implementation strategy for Kowloon East, with a view to developing the district into a smart, sustainable and liveable community while transforming it into another core business district for Hong Kong.

The PE will be conducted in two stages. During Stage 1, the EKEO will collect public views on the proposed framework and advocacy statement, as well as solicit ideas for proof of concept trials of innovative solutions. The EKEO will also consult members of the relevant District Councils, stakeholders including those in the information technology sector, professional and research institutes and members of the public. A Smart City Week, which includes a smart city exhibition, a roving exhibition, focus group meetings and a community workshop, is being held from today to November 13. The Stage 2 PE will be conducted around mid-2017.

Details about the Stage 1 PE are available on the Study's website (www.smartke.hk). Members of the public are welcome to send in their comments through the website or the following channels on or before January 6, 2017:
