"District-led Actions Scheme in Central: Lan Kwai Fong Clean and Shines" Campaign promotes message of maintaining environmental hygiene (with photo)

     The Central and Western District Office launched the "District-led Actions Scheme (DAS) in Central: Lan Kwai Fong Clean and Shines" Campaign to arouse awareness among residents and shopkeepers on keeping the environment clean by enhancing cleaning work and stepping up publicity and educational activities before and after Halloween at Lan Kwai Fong.

     The campaign was supported by the Central and Western District Council (C&WDC), the Food and Health Bureau, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and the Lan Kwai Fong Association. Over the weekend, the Chairman of the C&WDC, Mr Yip Wing-shing; the Chairlady of the Food, Environment, Hygiene and Works Committee of the C&WDC, Ms Siu Ka-yi; the District Officer (Central and Western), Mrs Susanne Wong; the District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Central/Western) of the FEHD, Mr Liu Chi-wai; and members of the Lan Kwai Fong Association distributed promotional leaflets and souvenirs at Lan Kwai Fong, encouraging the public and shopkeepers to observe good environmental hygiene and proper waste disposal when enjoying the festival. The FEHD also strengthened street cleaning services in the area during the festival.

     The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man; Mr Yip; Ms Siu; Mrs Wong; Mr Liu; and members of the C&WDC and the Lan Kwai Fong Association inspected the results of the campaign at Lan Kwai Fong today (November 1) and appealed to members of the public to make concerted efforts in building a healthy and clean community.

     Under the DAS implemented in all 18 districts, the District Management Committees chaired by District Officers are given the power to address certain management and environmental hygiene problems in public areas with the DCs' advice on the work priorities.
