Shanghai Dance Theatre to showcase repertoire in January
********************************************************
Shanghai Dance Theatre will give three performances in Hong Kong in January next year to showcase the dance drama "Crested Ibises" and the dance gala "Fragrance". The programmes are presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

The dance drama "Crested Ibises" is inspired by the endangered wild creature of the same name. The crested ibis, a beautiful and precious creature symbolising happiness and auspiciousness, is known as the "bird of good fortune". Long ago in agrarian societies, people lived in harmony with the crested ibis as good friends and companions. In 1981, the endangered species reappeared in China when Chinese scientists discovered seven wild crested ibises in Yang County, Shaanxi Province. Today, with the increasing consciousness and meticulous care in China, Japan, Korea and Eastern Siberia, crested ibises are exhibiting auspicious signs of revival. The dance drama will be staged at 8pm on January 6 and 7 (Friday and Saturday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. Tickets are priced at $140, $200, $260, $320 and $380.

The dance gala "Fragrance" features a fascinating award-winning programme including solo dance in "Wandering", pas de deux in "Dandelion" and "Only for Meeting with You on the Way", and group dance in "Beauty", "Deep Night", "Spring Wind in Plateau" and more. The dance gala will be staged at 3pm on January 8 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of the Yuen Long Theatre. Tickets are priced at $120, $170 and $220.

Founded in June 1979, Shanghai Dance Theatre is committed to creating and performing Chinese dance dramas, folk dances and vocal music productions. The group has been awarded numerous prizes on the Mainland such as the Five "One" Project Award, the National Fine Stage Arts Project Award, the Wenhua Award, the Gold Award of the China Lotus Award for Dance Drama and Dance Epic, the Gold Prize of the Chinese National Minority Dance Competition, the Panel's Award of the Professional Dance Competition of East China and the Award of Shanghai Fine Art Creation.
