Public alerted to suspected fraudulent activities related to Lip Shing Insurance Limited/ Lip Shing Insurance Brokers Limited

     The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance today (October 19) alerted the public to fake insurance policies found purported as issued by five authorised insurers, namely (1) China Ping An Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited; (2) Direct Asia Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited; (3) QBE HongKong & Shanghai Insurance Limited; (4) Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance Company (Hong Kong) Limited; and (5) Zurich Insurance Company Limited.  Most of these policies were arranged by companies named Lip Shing Insurance Limited or Lip Shing Insurance Brokers Limited (collectively named Lip Shing). Lip Shing maintained a website (www.lsib.hk).
 
     The public should be aware that Lip Shing is not an authorised insurer under the Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap. 41), nor an appointed insurance agent or authorised insurance broker.
 
     If your motor insurance policies were not arranged by Lip Shing but you have doubt on the authorisation status of the insurance intermediaries concerned, you may contact the Insurance Agents Registration Board (IARB) at 2520 1868, the Hong Kong Confederation of Insurance Brokers (CIB) at 2882 9943 or the Professional Insurance Brokers Association (PIBA) at 3421 2234.
 
     If your motor insurance policies were not arranged by Lip Shing but you have doubt on the validity of the policies of the subject insurers mentioned above, please contact the insurers concerned via their designated hotlines listed below:

     The Hong Kong Police Force has taken up the case for further investigation. Anyone who has confirmed or suspected their policies are faked should contact the Commercial Crimes Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012 or any local police station.
 
     Any company conducting insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorised by the Insurance Authority under the Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap 41). The full list of authorised insurers in Hong Kong, including their official websites and contact points, can be found at www.oci.gov.hk/download/ins.pdf.
