CAD response to media enquiries on Samsung smartphone
*****************************************************
In response to media enquiries concerning Samsung Galaxy Note 7, a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) today (October 15) said:

"In view of the potential risk of the smartphone concerned and the latest requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States announced on October 14 (US time), the CAD today requested all airlines operating flights to and from Hong Kong to remind passengers not to transport the device on passenger flights to or from Hong Kong in carry-on baggage or in checked baggage. Local airlines (including Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Express) have updated their passenger advisories accordingly. The Airport Authority Hong Kong has also taken corresponding actions at the Hong Kong International Airport to remind travellers of the relevant measure, for example through public announcement at the airport and reminder by airport security staff etc.

Following the travel advisory issued early last month by the CAD to the airlines operating in Hong Kong, this safety action represents further enhancement to aviation safety.

The CAD will continue to closely monitor the International Civil Aviation Organization and international practice in this respect, and take follow-up action as appropriate."
