InnoTech Month 2016 to promote culture of innovation and technology (with photos)

     The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) today (October 14) launched InnoTech Month 2016, with a range of activities to promote a culture of innovation and technology (I&T) in the community.

     InnoTech Month 2016 runs from October 14 to December 3 and features an array of programmes including roadshows, a large-scale carnival, exhibitions, workshops, long-distance running, seminars and industry conferences. The event aims to offer members of the public an opportunity to see Hong Kong's achievements in I&T, and to provide a communication platform for the industry to facilitate its long-term development.

     Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms Annie Choi, said that development of innovation and technology is one of the major priorities of the Government. The Policy Address and the Budget this year have launched many new initiatives to promote innovation and technology. I&T not only brings about economic benefits, but also makes daily life more convenient, more comfortable and safer.

     Following the launch of InnoTech Month 2016, a three-day roadshow is being held starting today at D．PARK in Tsuen Wan, where winning entries of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2016 and other inventions are on display, in conjunction with a series of workshops. Another roadshow will be held at Kai Tin Shopping Centre in Lam Tin from November 18 to 20.

     The InnoCarnival 2016, organised by the ITC with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation as campaign partners, is the highlight of InnoTech Month 2016. The InnoCarnival will be staged at Hong Kong Science Park from October 29 to November 6. The nine-day event will carry the theme "Smart Living．Innovative Hong Kong". Around 70 programme partners including local universities, R&D centres, professional bodies, government departments, technology start-ups and youth education organisations, etc., will showcase their innovations and research achievements, including solar cars, robotics, green and technological innovations in different ways.

     Members of the public are invited to attend. Admission to the roadshows and the InnoCarnival is free of charge.
