Authorised by the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province, the Hong Kong Hainan Commercial Association (HKHCA) officially opened the Hainan Commerce Representative Office in Hong Kong today (October 11), leveraging the city's strategic location and its well-established international business network to assist Hainan enterprises to "go global" and attract overseas companies to Hainan Province.

Deputy President of the HKHCA and Director of the Hainan Commerce Representative Office, Mr Pun Ka-tak, said the decision by the Hainan Provincial Government to set up the Representative Office in Hong Kong was prompted by the Central Government's Belt and Road Initiative. The HKHCA has been commissioned to manage the office for the province.

The Representative Office is responsible not only for enhancing co-operation in investment, economic and trade and tourism between Hainan and Hong Kong, but also for exploring new international markets for Hainan Province by expanding its investment promotion team and organising various economic and trade investment promotion activities in Hong Kong.

Mr Pun said, "Hong Kong as an international gateway for foreign investors to enter the Mainland market and is the best place to show the world Hainan's latest economic developments. The city is also well connected to key markets in Asia and around the world, making it an excellent platform for Hainan enterprises to 'go global'. The Hainan Commerce Representative Office will actively support Hainan enterprises in making use of Hong Kong's role as a dual platform and in extending Hainan's global economic and trade network."

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Francis Ho, attended the opening ceremony of the Representative Office. He said, "I am very happy to see the Hainan Provincial Government has chosen Hong Kong to set up the Hainan Commerce Representative Office. Hong Kong is an international business hub in Asia. I believe that the Representative Office will tap into the city's strategic location to help Hainan enterprises access more business opportunities around the world."
