Four projects approved for funding under Sustainable Development Fund

The following is issued on behalf of the Council for Sustainable Development:

     The Council for Sustainable Development announced today (September 20) that four new projects have been approved for funding under the Sustainable Development Fund. 
 
     A spokesperson for the Council said, "The four approved projects are conducive to promoting sustainable practices in the community, thus meeting the objectives of the Fund. They could enhance public understanding of sustainable development amongst businesses and the community and encourage the application of sustainability principles in daily lives."

     This is the 12th round of application under the Fund, with a total of 59 proposals received. The four approved projects, lasting from 18 to 24 months, involve a total grant of about $5.1 million from the Fund. The four projects are:

* "Fostering Sustainable Consumption for Hong Kong Business and the Community" by the Business Environment Council Limited for a period of 18 months with a grant of $1,518,300;

* The "Love & Sustainability" Community Engagement Project by Christian Family Service Centre Community Development Services for a period of 21 months with a grant of $866,975;

* The Promoting Sustainable Seafood Through Seafood Guide Programme by WWF-Hong Kong for a period of 24 months with a grant of $1,250,249; and

* "Know it and Do it! A Project to Promote Sustainable Lifestyle by Women" by the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres for a period of 24 months with a grant of $1,502,194.

     The Sustainable Development Fund was set up in 2003 to provide financial support for initiatives that will help enhance public awareness of sustainable development and encourage sustainable practices in Hong Kong. Including this round of application, a cumulative total of 67 projects have been approved for grants from the Fund, involving a total amount of about $69 million.
