CE's Office responds to media enquiries on development of Wang Chau
*******************************************************************
With regard to media enquiries on the Task Force on Wang Chau and Queen's Hill Site chaired by the Chief Executive, a spokesperson of the Chief Executive's Office today (September 18) replied as follows -

Increasing land and housing supply has always been a top policy priority of the current-term Government. With all-out efforts by Government colleagues, housing supplies have hit record highs over the past four years.

Large-scale development projects usually involve multiple Government departments such as planning, infrastructure, traffic and environmental protection, etc. As a result, high-level, cross-bureaux coordination and facilitation are necessary in order to increase land and housing supply as quickly as possible.

Since the Chief Executive assumed office, he has chaired inter-departmental meetings almost every week to take forward high-level coordination work for 20 to 30 large-scale, medium to long-term land development projects. These development projects were highlighted in the Policy Address every year. Apart from Wang Chau, Queen's Hill is also among such type of projects.

At the Task Force meeting on Wang Chau and Queen's Hill chaired by the Chief Executive, the public housing supply target for Wang Chau remained at 17,000 units.

The Chief Executive and the SAR Government will not let go of any opportunity to increase land supply, including using brownfield for housing. In the process of increasing land supply, the interests of certain sectors, districts or individuals may be affected. Nevertheless, the Government has never flinched and will remain so in handling Wang Chau and other development projects.
