Hong Kong once again ranked first in the world in economic freedom
******************************************************************
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today (September 15) welcomed the Fraser Institute's recognition of Hong Kong as the freest economy in the world again in its latest report on economic freedom.

"Our long-standing commitment to upholding economic freedom has once again earned accolades in the international arena," a government spokesman said.

"The Government is well aware that economic freedom as enshrined in our institutional strengths is at the core of our competitiveness among the world's leading cities. In a world of keen competition, we cannot afford to be complacent," he added.

Among the five broad areas of assessment, Hong Kong has continued to hold high rankings in "size of government" (first), "regulation" (first) and "freedom to trade internationally" (second) in the latest report.

"We will strive to uphold our traditions of an open and free trade and business environment, a small and efficient government, and the rule of law and an independent judiciary, which are the cornerstones of Hong Kong's economic success," the spokesman said.
