Lantern carnival at Victoria Park celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival (with photos)
******************************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is holding the lantern carnival at Victoria Park tonight (September 15), featuring a series of entertainment programmes and spectacular lantern displays to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Decorated with dazzling lanterns, Victoria Park is filled with festive joy. The thematic display entitled "It's All About Hong Kong" showcases famous fairy tale figures including the Frog Prince and Cinderella visiting Hong Kong landmarks.

Other spectacular lanterns have also become hot spots for photo-taking at the carnival, such as an exhibition on traditional lanterns crafted by local masters and presented by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office of the LCSD to show the traditional craftsmanship of lantern making; a Mid-Autumn installation arts display by young visual artists; a Students' Lantern Design Display; and a "Splendid Taiwan" lantern, which has been displayed at the Taiwan Lantern Carnival 2016.

Members of the public are also enjoying the carnival's festive programmes. The highlights include spectacular ethnic dances, songs, and acrobatic shows by the Shaanxi Arts Troupe. There are also folk art demonstrations by Guangdong and local masters including beading embroidery, Chaozhou opera helmet making, Chinese gown making and "fa pai" (flower plaque) craftsmanship.

The marching band, music and dance performances and a magic show are boosting the fun of the carnival, while other entertaining programmes such as a creative market and a lantern quiz are further key attractions.

This year, the LCSD has continued to co-operate with the Tai Hang Residents' Welfare Association in bringing the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, a listed item of national intangible cultural heritage, into Victoria Park as a grand finale of the carnival.
