Relocation of Small Claims Tribunal
***********************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

The Judiciary announced today (September 12) that the Small Claims Tribunal will relocate to the West Kowloon Law Courts Building (WKLCB), 501 Tung Chau Street, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon on September 19.

A Judiciary spokesman said, "At present, the Small Claims Tribunal is situated at Wanchai Tower, Harbour Road, Wanchai. The number of courtrooms and offices being inadequate for operational purposes, the Judiciary proposed in 2009 the construction of the WKLCB in order to meet the increasing demand for court services and enhance the operational efficiency of the courts.

“The building works for the WKLCB have been substantially completed. The Small Claims Tribunal will be the first to move into the new building and will have a total of 12 courtrooms, 12 consultation rooms, 16 interview rooms, eight registration rooms and a registry. A new Information Centre will also be set up to provide enquiry services, such as dealing with enquiries of potential litigants before a claim is filed.”

Following the relocation of the Small Claims Tribunal, the Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Courts, the Coroner’s Court and the Obscene Articles Tribunal will also relocate to the West Kowloon Law Courts Building from the end of this year to early next year. The dates for relocation will be announced in due course.
