Company fined for wage offences
*******************************
Millennium Scaffolding Systems (Asia) Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department for committing wage offences under the Employment Ordinance. The company earlier pleaded guilty at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts and was fined $90,000 today (September 8).

The company failed to pay wages to an employee within seven days after the expiry of the wage periods, as required by Section 23 of the Employment Ordinance. The total amount of wages involved was about $85,000.

"The judgment will disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay wages to employees in accordance with the Employment Ordinance," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.

"The Labour Department does not tolerate the above offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
