******************************************************************************************
The Department of Health (DH) today (August 31) urged the public not to buy or consume a product called ALLMAX RAPIDCUTS SHREDDED, as it was found to contain an undeclared and controlled ingredient.

Acting on intelligence, the DH collected the above product for analysis. Test results of the Government Laboratory confirmed that the sample contains yohimbine.

     DH investigation is ongoing.

Yohimbine is a Part 1 poison and has an antidiuretic effect. Its side-effects include elevation of heart rate and blood pressure, anxiety, manic reactions and bronchospasm. Products containing yohimbine can only be sold in a pharmacy under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

According to the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance (Cap 138), illegal sale and possession of Part 1 poisons are criminal offences. The maximum penalty for each offence is a fine of $100,000 and two years' imprisonment.

A DH spokesman strongly urged members of the public not to buy or consume products of doubtful composition.

People who have purchased the above product should stop taking it immediately and consult healthcare professionals for advice if in doubt or feeling unwell after consumption.

They may submit the product to the DH's Drug Office at Room 1856, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, during office hours for disposal.
