Transcript of remarks by S for S after FCC meeting
**************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, at a media session at Central Government Offices, Tamar, after the Fight Crime Committee meeting this afternoon (August 29):

Reporter: What is the arrangement for the Legislative Council election? How many officers will be deployed at each polling station? Is there any backup plan if clashes break out? Also, with the number of homicide cases increasing this year compared with last year, what do you think it says about Hong Kong safety?

Secretary for Security: For your second question, according to the statistics, the number of homicide cases has increased when compared with the same period last year. As I have earlier analysed in Cantonese, we do not find any special clues that the increase of number of cases is due to certain particular circumstances. Anyway, all the cases have been detected.

Regarding the election that is going to be held this Sunday, the Police and the relevant government departments have made full preparations to ensure that the voting will be carried out smoothly, legally and in accordance with the law. We have operation plans in place as well as sufficient officers on duty so that if there is any situation that needs to be dealt with, it can be dealt with swiftly and in an orderly manner.
