New Vision Arts Festival to showcase innovative cross-boundary collaborations (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
     The biennial New Vision Arts Festival, celebrating its eighth edition this year, will feature an array of pioneering shows by local and overseas performing groups. Showcasing innovative interdisciplinary collaborations and electrifying new perspectives on the arts, the festival will offer a range of new experiences for audiences.

     Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the New Vision Arts Festival will run from October 21 to November 20.

     Opening the festival will be "Matsukaze" by Sasha Waltz & Guests from Germany. Blending elements of Japanese Noh theatre, Western opera and contemporary dance, the show is a choreographic reinterpretation of the Noh classic "Matsukaze". German choreographer Sasha Waltz, renowned for her cross-disciplinary collaborations, has teamed up with acclaimed Japanese classical composer Toshio Hosokawa for this choreographic opera, fusing minimalist Eastern theatre with striking contemporary dance. The programme will be staged from October 21 to 23 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre.

     To mark the closing of the festival, celebrated choreographer Akram Khan will present his latest hit, "Until the Lions". Adapted from the ancient Indian Sanskrit epic "The Mahabharata" and performed by Akram Khan Company from the UK, the dance spectacular, conjoining love and hate, features breathtaking technique, energy and emotion. The powerful production stunned the dance world earlier this year in London and is set to make an equally dramatic impression in its Asian premiere commissioned by the festival. The programme will be staged on November 19 and 20 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre.

     Li Liuyi, hailed as one of China's most influential theatre directors, has drawn on Chinese philosophy and traditional opera to radically reinterpret the ancient Greek tragedy "Prometheus Bound" as a comedy, bringing fresh insights into the classic play. Commissioned by the festival and performed by Li Liuyi Theatre Studio, the programme will have its world premiere from November 11 to 13 at the Kwai Tsing Theatre Auditorium.

     The festival will also feature:

* Ensemble intercontemporain (France)
* "One Zero" by GayBird x Tsai Ming-liang
* "Utopia, momentarily" by Susie Au x Vicky Fung x Chow Yiu-fai
* "A Concise History of Future" by Reframe Theatre x FELIXISM CREATION
* "ArtSnap", a mini-festival within the festival
* "Wittgenstein" by Zuni Icosahedron
* "superposition" by Ryoji Ikeda (Japan)
* "King of Ghosts" by Soumik Datta (UK), Johannes Berauer (Austria) and Cormac Byrne (Ireland)

     Apart from staging performances, the festival will also offer an inspiring range of extension activities, including the outdoor concert "Music Beyond Borders", "New Vision Conversations: The Arts Salon Series", "Festival Perspectives: In Search of Critics with New Vision", masterclasses, a workshop, pre-performance talks, exhibitions, a lecture demonstration, talks, meet-the-artist sessions and more.
