Dragon and Phoenix Cantonese Opera Troupe to perform in October
***************************************************************
     Dragon and Phoenix Cantonese Opera Troupe will perform four traditional Cantonese operas in October. The shows are presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
   
     Details of the performances are as follows:
 
October 20 (Thursday), 7.30pm
Theatre, Ko Shan Theatre
Programme: "The Marshal's Marriage"
Performers: Lee Lung, Nam Fung, Liu Kwok-sum, Lai Yiu-wai, Lam Tsz-ching and To Wing-sum
Synopsis: Fearing intimidation by the stronger states, King Zhuang of the State of Song leverages on the beauty of his beloved daughter Caifeng and asks the Kings of Cai, Han and Zhao to discuss marriage. He hopes that a royal marriage could help gain stronger backing for his state. The marriage invitation event of Song attracts the attendance of Gai Shiying from the State of Cai, as well as the Prince of Han and the Prince of Zhao.
 
October 21 (Friday), 7.30pm
Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall
Programme: "The Lady's Sash"
Performers: Lee Lung, Nam Fung, Liu Kwok-sum, Lai Yiu-wai, Lam Tsz-ching and To Wing-sum
Synopsis: Zhao Shizhen, the garrison general of Huaiyang during the Ming dynasty, has hired scholar Lu Shike to be the homeschool teacher of his son Xilang. Ruxiang, the wife of Shizhen, was a courtesan. Her foster mother Ru Sanniang moved into the family with Xiang. Xiang is happy to see Xilang making good progress with his studies. She praises Shike for being a talented teacher. Shizhen becomes suspicious of his wife having a secret crush on Shike. One day, the teacher catches a cold. Xilang takes a blanket to keep his teacher warm. The sash used to tie up the blanket is mistakenly left behind on the bed of the guest room. Shizhen visits the teacher and becomes furious when he sees the sash - he misunderstands it as a sign of Xiang's infidelity.
 
October 29 (Saturday), 7.30pm
Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre
Programme: "A Warring Couple"
Performers: Lee Lung, Nam Fung, Liu Kwok-sum, Wan Yuk-yu, Lam Tsz-ching and To Wing-sum
Synopsis: During the reign of Emperor Xian of Han, Shangguan Yunlong, the son of the Minister of Defence, triumphantly returns to his home town after pacifying the south. He meets Situ Wenfeng, the daughter of the Minister of Personnel, who triumphs in pacifying the west. The two bicker and their fight is taken to the imperial court. Not knowing which side to take, Emperor Xian comes up with an idea. He grants Wenfeng the title of imperial sister and names Yunlong as a duke, and the two are to unite in matrimony with the blessing of the Emperor.
 
October 30 (Sunday), 7.30pm
Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre
Programme: "A Comedy of Mistaken Heroes"
Performers: Lee Lung, Nam Fung, Liu Kwok-sum, Wan Yuk-yu, Lam Tsz-ching and To Wing-sum
Synopsis: Following a series of fortunate slip-ups, Lai Niaoxia is mistaken as the troubled prince Li Hunsu. He even becomes the contract killing target of his love rival. The audience can expect lots of laughs as the story develops. The identities of the two persons get confusing, but who each person really is will offer a huge surprise.

      A post-performance talk (in Cantonese) will be held at 7.30pm on November 14 (Monday) at AC2, Level 4, Administration Building, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Speakers will include Nam Fung, Lai Yiu-wai and To Wing-sum. Admission is free with limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.
