Appointment of Hong Kong Productivity Council Chairman
******************************************************
The Government today (August 5) announced that the Chief Executive has appointed Mr Willy Lin Sun-mo as Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) for two years starting from August 6, 2016.

A seasoned and respected industrialist, Mr Lin is currently a Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Shippers' Council. He has a strong record of public and community service, including as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation Advisory Board, and as a member of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Manpower Development Committee and the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board. From 2003 to 2008, he also served the HKPC as a member.

The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, welcomed the appointment of Mr Lin as the new Chairman of the HKPC. He said that the HKPC and the innovation and technology sector would benefit from Mr Lin's strong industry background and experience in public service. Under Mr Lin's leadership, the HKPC will continue the important task of helping to upgrade, transform and retool the manufacturing sector, promoting re-industrialisation and transition towards high value-added production.

Mr Yang also took the opportunity to pay tribute to the late Mr Stanley Lau, the immediate past Chairman, for his great dedication to the HKPC's development since assuming the Chairmanship in July 2015.

"During his term of service, Mr Lau was tirelessly devoted to steering the development of the HKPC in offering comprehensive and timely support to our industries, in particular small and medium enterprises. We are most grateful to Mr Lau for his exemplary leadership and insight. The passing of Mr Lau was a great loss to the industry and Hong Kong as a whole," he said.

Mr Yang also expressed his gratitude to Mr Victor Ng, Deputy Chairman of the HKPC. Mr Ng has been standing in as Acting Chairman since the passing of Mr Lau on June 12, 2016.

The HKPC was established in 1967 to promote increased productivity in Hong Kong. Its role is to provide integrated support to innovative and growth-oriented Hong Kong firms across the value chain. The HKPC's main sectoral focus is Hong Kong's manufacturing and related service activities, while its main geographical focus is Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. The HKPC provides its clients with a diverse range of support services in product development, consultancy, training and technology transfer.
