Employer fined for wage offences
********************************
Whole Person Development Institute Limited pleaded guilty at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (August 4) for failing to pay five employees wages with a total amount of about $250,000 within seven days after expiry of respective wage periods under the Employment Ordinance. The employer was fined $123,000. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

"The judgment would disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay wages to employees in accordance with the Employment Ordinance," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.

"The Labour Department does not tolerate the above offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
