     The Government announced today (July 21) that Ms Salina Yan Mei-mei, Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), will take up the post of Director-General of Trade and Industry on August 9, 2016, succeeding Mr Kenneth Mak Ching-yu, who has proceeded on pre-retirement leave.

     The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, said, "Ms Yan is a seasoned Administrative Officer with proven leadership and management skills. I have every confidence that she will serve the community with professionalism, leading the department to rise to the challenges ahead."

     On the retirement of Mr Mak, Mr Cheung said, "Mr Mak has rendered over 29 years of loyal and dedicated service to the community of Hong Kong. During his tenure as Director-General of Trade and Industry, Mr Mak successfully implemented many measures to support Hong Kong's small and medium enterprises. He devoted himself to further enhancing the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement. He also played an instrumental role in fostering trade relations with Hong Kong's major trading partners, and led Hong Kong in playing a constructive role in various international and regional forums. I wish him a happy retirement."
           
     Brief biographical notes of the two officers are set out below:
           
Mr Kenneth Mak Ching-yu

     Mr Mak joined the Administrative Service in October 1986 and rose to the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A in April 2013. He has occupied key management positions in different bureaux and departments including the former City and New Territories Administration, the Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service, the former Finance Branch, the former New Airport Projects Co-ordination Office, the former Trade and Industry Branch, the Financial Secretary's Office, the former Trade and Industry Bureau and the Housing Department. He was Private Secretary to the Chief Executive from July 2007 to April 2010, Permanent Secretary, Chief Executive's Office from April 2010 to June 2012 and Director-General of Trade and Industry from July 2012 to February 2016.

     Ms Yan joined the Administrative Service in July 1988 and rose to the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April 2013. She has served in a wide range of policy bureaux and departments including the former City and New Territories Administration, the former Transport Branch, the former Trade Department, the former Chief Secretary's Office, the former Trade and Industry Branch, the former Financial Services Bureau, the former Economic Development and Labour Bureau and the former Health, Welfare and Food Bureau. She served as Deputy Representative in the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Geneva from September 2006 to September 2009 and Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs from October 2009 to September 2011 before taking up the present position as Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services) in October 2011.
