********************************************************************
The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, and six university council chairmen will go to Guangdong Province today (July 20) to commence a two-day visit and education exchanges.

After arriving in Shenzhen today, the delegation will first visit the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub and meet with some young entrepreneurs from Hong Kong to hear about their ambitions and experience in starting up business. They will also visit ZTE Corporation to gain an overview on technological innovation in Shenzhen.

Tomorrow (July 21), Mr Ng and the university council chairmen will attend the Hong Kong/Guangdong Universities High Level Meeting in Guangzhou to exchange views with education officials and leaders of higher education institutions of the province on the latest developments of post-secondary education and co-operation opportunities between the two places. They will also visit Guangzhou Saliai Stemcell Science and Technology Co Ltd and listen to an update on the development of hi-tech industries in Guangzhou.

During his stay in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Mr Ng will also meet with leaders and officials of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and the Guangdong Provincial Government to introduce the latest developments of education in Hong Kong.

The university council chairmen joining Mr Ng to visit Guangdong are Mr Herman Hu of the City University of Hong Kong, Mr Cheng Yan-kee of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr Rex Auyeung of Lingnan University, Dr Norman Leung of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mr Ignatius Chan of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Mr Andrew Liao of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Other officials include the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, and the Principal Assistant Secretary for Education (Higher Education), Ms Sharon Ko. They will return to Hong Kong tomorrow night.

Last November, Mr Ng joined for the first time presidents and vice presidents of eight universities in Hong Kong to form a delegation for education exchanges in Guangdong, during which higher education institutions of the two places reached an agreement to establish the Hong Kong-Guangdong Higher Education Institution Alliance. Macau subsequently indicated it would participate. The Hong Kong-Guangdong-Macau Higher Education Institution Alliance, when established, will serve as an effective platform for institutions of the three places to explore collaboration opportunities in various aspects, such as education, technology transfer and commercialisation, and student exchanges.
