Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected methamphetamine (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (July 6) seized about 8 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine at Sha Tau Kok Control Point with a total estimated market value of about $2.51 million.

     Customs officers intercepted an incoming lorry at Sha Tau Kok Control Point yesterday afternoon. About 8kg of suspected methamphetamine concealed in eight tea bags was found behind the passenger seat in the driving compartment. The 45-year-old male driver was arrested.

     The arrested man will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (July 8).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
