SCS visits CEDD (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, visited the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (July 7) to learn more about the work of the department and to take the opportunity to meet its staff.

     Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Cheung first met with the Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr Daniel Chung, and the directorate staff. The major service areas of the CEDD include the provision of land and infrastructure, port and marine services, geotechnical services as well as environmental and sustainability services.

     Later, Mr Cheung visited the Planning Division under the Geotechnical Engineering Office to learn more about its work in geological surveying, managing the Aerial Photo Library, application of remote sensing techniques in slope safety management, natural terrain hazard studies as well as developing cavern and underground space.

     Mr Cheung also toured the Fill Management Division of the Civil Engineering Office where he was briefed by staff on their work in managing public fill reception facilities and construction waste sorting facilities as well as managing disposal facilities for dredged or excavated sediments.

     Before concluding his visit, Mr Cheung met staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on relevant departmental issues. He praised colleagues' efforts and encouraged them to continue to provide high quality civil engineering services to meet Hong Kong's development needs.
