Fatal fire in Sheung Shui

     A 73-year-old man died in a No. 1 alarm fire in Tin Hor House, Tin Ping Estate, Sheung Shui, today (July 5).

     The fire broke out at a domestic unit, measures about 6 metres x 7 metres, on the 15th floor of Tin Hor House at 4.15am today. Firemen used one jet and mobilised two breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze. The fire was largely put out at 4.30am. Six persons were led to safety and about 20 persons self-evacuated to place of safety. Two of them felt unwell after inhalation of smoke but did not need to be conveyed to hospital after treatment on spot.

     An unconscious man was rescued by firemen from the affected unit. He was sent to North District Hospital and was certified dead at 4.56am.

     Concerning the cause of fire, initial investigations revealed that no suspicious circumstances were noted.
