DoJ to promote legal services forum in Jiangsu and Anhui
********************************************************

The Department of Justice (DoJ) is leading a delegation of the legal and arbitration sectors to Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province from today (July 5) to July 8 to promote Hong Kong's legal and dispute resolution services and the fourth Hong Kong Legal Services Forum, which will be held in Nanjing on November 15 this year.

Under the theme of "Jiangsu • Hong Kong - Together we seize global business opportunities", the Forum is part of the DoJ's ongoing effort to enhance Hong Kong's status as an international legal services and dispute resolution centre in the Asia-Pacific region, and to assist the legal and dispute resolution sectors of Hong Kong to promote their services to Mainland enterprises and other service users.

The delegation, led by the Deputy Solicitor General, Mr Peter Wong, comprises representatives of the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Law Society of Hong Kong, the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (Asia Office), the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Hong Kong Arbitration Center, the China Maritime Arbitration Commission Hong Kong Arbitration Center and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. These organsations are co-organisers of the Forum.

During the four-day trip, the delegation will visit Nanjing, Hefei, Changzhou and Wuxi to meet with relevant government officials and representatives of legal and arbitral bodies.

"China is the economic driver of Asia and the world. With the new opportunities offered by the National 13th Five-Year Plan and the Belt and Road Initiative, cross-boundary trade and business activities will continue to increase. With its strong legal infrastructure and legal professionals familiar with international commercial law and dispute resolution practices, Hong Kong can share its experience with Mainland enterprises and the legal sector through the Forum and seize global opportunities with them together," Mr Wong said.

Experienced practicising barristers, solicitors and arbitrators will explore various practical legal issues in the Forum to be held in November, including issues on legal risk management and intellectual property issues that may be encountered by Mainland enterprises when they invest overseas, the advantages of using Hong Kong's international arbitration and mediation services in resolving commercial disputes, and investment risk management issues under the Belt and Road Initiative.
