Update on cluster of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae cases in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) cases in two wards (a medical ward and a mixed ward), the spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital made the following update today (June 28):

     In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed active surveillance and contact tracing. One more 85-year-old male patient has been confirmed to have CRE. The patient is now hospitalised under isolation and in a stable condition.

     Infection control measures have been stepped up according to the established guidelines in the ward. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
