The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has approved from the Disaster Relief Fund a grant of $445,000 to the Amity Foundation, Hong Kong for providing relief to flood victims in Guizhou Province in the Mainland.

Announcing the grant today (June 24), a spokesman for the Government said that this grant was approved under the fast-track mechanism for funding application set up on the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee to facilitate the process of applications from relief organisations for limited grants to kick-start first-phase emergency relief work more expeditiously.

Under the fast-track mechanism, the amount of grant applied should be no more than $450,000 per application and the relief items to be distributed are confined to food and water. Application should be made within ten days after the onset of the disaster and the approved project must be completed within three weeks upon grant approval.

"It is hoped that the grant would help provide immediate relief to the flood victims. To ensure that the money would be used for the designated purposes, the Amity Foundation, Hong Kong would be asked to submit an evaluation report and an audited account on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed," the spokesman said.
