12 private properties receive Gold Awards for best landscape design and maintenance (with photos)
************************************************************

The winners of the Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development 2016 were announced at a prize presentation ceremony today (June 23). Twelve private properties with outstanding landscape design and quality horticultural maintenance received Gold Awards.

In addition to the 12 Gold Awards, 27 Merit Awards and 11 Environmental Efficiency Awards were given at the ceremony to commend organisations for their efforts in greening and enhancing public awareness of green issues.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, said that the Best Landscape Award has been held once every two years since its launch in 2000. This year, the Environmental Efficiency Awards were added in support of environmental protection. The green features of each entry were assessed on the application of the "3R" principle of reducing, reusing and recycling. In addition to cost effectiveness, other assessment criteria included horticultural sustainability, promotion of environmental awareness and green living.

She added that more than 170 nominated entries were received. The panel of jurors consisted of representatives from the organiser and co-organisers, horticulturists and representatives from environmental organisations.

The entries were impressive, showing that the participating organisations have put plenty of effort into greening. The soft landscape designs of the winning projects are visually appealing, and various plant species with different features have been used to beautify the cityscape and enhance urban living. Property management and maintenance professionals have also kept good care of the landscaping, offering quality greening areas to residents and users. Some winning projects have put an emphasis on environmental protection, applying organic fertilisers and holding a variety of activities to deliver related messages.

The prize presentation ceremony was held at Kowloon Park Sports Centre today. Other officiating guests were the Patron of the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), Sir David Akers-Jones; the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Mr Vincent Ng; the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, Mr Wong Tak-yip; the Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council, Mr Ivan Ho; the Vice President of the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, Mr Cliff Wong; and the Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Mr Billy Wong.

The Best Landscape Award was organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), and co-organised by the Home Affairs Department, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Professional Green Building Council and the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies.
