Appeal to registered electors to check their registration and reply to reminder letters
**********************************************************

     The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) today (June 16) reminded all registered electors to check their registration by visiting the Online Voter Information Enquiry System (www.voterinfo.gov.hk) or calling the REO hotline (2891 1001), and to reply to reminder letters, as soon as possible.

     "The provisional registers of electors and omissions lists were published on June 1 for public inspection. Members of the public may lodge a claim or objection with the REO by the deadline of June 25," an REO spokesman said.

     A claim or objection may be lodged where:

* a person whose name is on the omissions list, or a person who has applied for registration but cannot find his/her registration in the provisional register, and therefore wants to make a claim;

* a registered elector finds that his/her registration particulars are incorrect and therefore wants to make a claim to correct the particulars; or

* a person considers that another person on the provisional register of electors is not eligible to be registered and therefore wants to make an objection.

     "All claims and objections must be lodged in person by June 25," the spokesman said.

     In addition, the REO has issued reminder letters to the persons who have been included on the omissions list, requesting them to reply to the REO also by June 25. These letters were sent in beige envelopes bearing the message "Immediate action required. Your voting right is at stake" in red (image attached).

     "We would like to remind persons who have been issued with these reminder letters to also reply to the REO by June 25, providing the required information so as to retain their voter registration," the spokesman added.

     All the claims, objections and replies to reminder letters will be submitted to the Revising Officer for consideration in accordance with electoral laws and the evidence submitted by the claimant or objector.

     As June 25 falls on a Saturday, which is not an REO business day, the REO has made special arrangements to open its offices at 10/F, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, and 13/F, Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre, 1 Trademart Drive, Kowloon Bay from 9am to noon on that day, to receive notices of claims and objections.
