Influenza A cases at Kwai Chung Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) made the following announcement today (June 11):

     Five patients (aged from 28 to 66) of a female psychiatric acute ward of KCH had presented with fever and upper respiratory tract infection symptom since June 8.  Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and four of them had positive test results for Influenza A. The concerned patients are being treated under isolation in stable condition.  

     Admission and visiting to the concerned ward have been suspended.  Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines.  All other patients in the concerned ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
