*****************************************

The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will depart for Shanghai in the evening on Sunday (June 12) to attend the Lujiazui Forum 2016.

The theme for this year's forum is "Global Economic Growth Challenge and Financial Reform". Professor Chan will attend one of the plenary sessions on "New Dimensions for China's Financial Opening Up" on June 13, during which he will share his views on Hong Kong's strengths and opportunities in the opening up of the Mainland's financial markets.

The two-day forum has been jointly organised by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the People's Bank of China, the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the China Insurance Regulatory Commission since 2008. It provides a high-level global platform for influential government officials, regulators, financial leaders and scholars to discuss and foster international financial co-operation and further the financial reform and market opening in China.

While in Shanghai, Professor Chan will sign a co-operation agreement with the Shanghai Municipal Government Financial Services Office to further financial co-operation between the two places. He will also meet with the Executive Vice Mayor of the Shanghai Municipal Government, Mr Tu Guangshao, to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.

In addition, he will visit a start-up incubator and an insurance firm to learn more about the latest developments in the application of financial technologies in the industry.

Professor Chan will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon on June 14.
