The Acting Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, met a high-level delegation led by the Chairman of Special Olympics International, Dr Timothy Shriver, today (June 6). The delegation is here to attend a launch ceremony to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Special Olympics Hong Kong (SOHK).

Noting that Hong Kong was one of the first economies to join the Special Olympics (SO) movement, Mr Cheung said the SO's mission to promote sports activities for persons with intellectual disability is fully in line with the current-term Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's commitment to promoting a caring and cohesive society.

Mr Cheung said he was glad to learn from the SO Global Ambassador, Mr Yao Ming, that athletes with disabilities are able to build self-confidence and enjoy better social networking through participation in sports.
