********************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (June 1) held the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Certification Award Ceremony cum Technical Seminar to commend organisations which had made efforts to achieve good IAQ.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, Ms Anissa Wong, said that maintaining good IAQ is very important as many people stay indoors most of the time every day. She found it very encouraging that the number of premises participating in the IAQ Certification Scheme for Offices and Public Places has been increasing. She also praised the premises owners and property management companies participating in the IAQ Certification Scheme for setting a good example and helping to raise the awareness of the community about IAQ.

At the ceremony, the EPD presented awards to premises holding Excellent Class and Good Class certificates. In addition, special awards were presented to those premises which have entered the IAQ Certification Scheme for 10 years as well as the 10 organisations with the highest participation rates, to recognise their active participation and support over the years.

The EPD launched the IAQ Certification Scheme for Offices and Public Places in September 2003 to promote and commend good IAQ management practices. By the end of 2015, about 1 200 premises in Hong Kong had obtained IAQ certificates, including office buildings, shopping malls, club houses, educational institutions, hotels and other public places.

A technical seminar was held following the award ceremony, with professionals and management representatives of various types of premises invited to share tips for achieving good IAQ with the attendees.

Any organisation or individual interested in joining or having a better understanding of the IAQ Certification Scheme can obtain more information from the IAQ Information Centre or via its dedicated website www.iaq.gov.hk.
