Public urged to stay away from road sections affected by landslides

     A spokesman for the Civil Engineering and Development Department said today (May 21) that due to heavy rain from last night to this morning, a number of landslides occurred at the natural hillsides near Sai Wan Pavilion at Sai Wan Road, Sai Kung and along a section of the MacLehose Trail near Chek Keng. The landslides have resulted in temporary closure of several sections of roads. The public at that area are reminded to keep vigilance to their nearby hillsides. If any sign of landslide is noticed, the public shall stay away from the hillside immediately. Besides, a section of the MacLehose Trail Section 2 near Distance Post No. M042 and close to Chek Keng Pier was blocked by landslide debris, hikers and the residents at that area are advised to avoid going there during this period.

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department and other departments are carrying out emergency works with an aim to reopen the affected sections of road as soon as possible.
