Revised boundaries of two public cargo working areas proposed

     The Government will revise the boundaries of Western District Public Cargo Working Area (PCWA) and Stonecutters Island PCWA to meet local district needs and enhance the operational efficiency of container terminals. The new boundaries of these two PCWAs were gazetted today (May 20).

     "After consulting the stakeholders, we will release 172 metres of sea frontage of Western District PCWA for other use, and 120m of sea frontage of Stonecutters Island PCWA to support the operation of the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals," a Government spokesperson said.

     "Following the revision of boundaries, Western District PCWA will occupy a total area of approximately 32 600 square metres with a usable sea frontage of 880m, and Stonecutters Island PCWA will occupy a total area of approximately 29 400 sq m with a usable sea frontage of 560m. There would be minimal impact on the daily operation of the existing operators."

     The spokesperson said that the Port Control (Public Cargo Working Area) Order 2016 and the Port Control (Public Cargo Working Area) (No. 2) Order 2016 will be tabled before the Legislative Council on May 25 for negative vetting and come into effect on August 1.
