Speech by CE at opening ceremony of T·PARK (with photos/video)
******************************************************

Following is the speech by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at the opening ceremony of T·PARK, the first integrated sludge treatment facility in Hong Kong, this afternoon (May 19):

Consul-General (Consul-General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Mr Eric Berti), distinguished guests, government colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon. You probably have seen enough of me on television over the past two or three days, and you've probably seen me wearing my ties and suits all the time. So this afternoon I decided to come in shirt sleeves and rolled up my sleeves. And you probably heard me, again over the last two or three days, speaking Putonghua all the time, and on occasions like this one of the tricky things that speakers need to address is which language to use.

I don't speak French, and since I have been speaking Putonghua for the past two or three days, I thought on this occasion I'll switch to my mother tongue, Cantonese. But before that, let me just say in English the importance that we attach to environmental issues generally in Hong Kong, and environmental protection in particular.

There are four main policy agenda areas for this term of Government: housing, a big social issue; ageing society, we want to prepare for; poverty, yes we do have poverty in Hong Kong; and last but not least the environment, and that's why we are here together.
