The Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene conducted a visit to the food control checkpoint of the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) at Kwai Chung Customhouse and an importer's warehouse today (May 17) to better understand the operations of CFS' surveillance on food imported by sea.
Accompanied by the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee, Members first received a briefing by representatives of CFS on the surveillance of imported food. Members also observed the inspection of radiation levels of food imported from Japan demonstrated by representatives of CFS. Members then visited an importer's warehouse to learn more about the procedure of inspecting imported food.
Members who participated in the visit are the Chairman of the Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Tommy Cheung, along with the Deputy Chairman, Mr Steven Ho and Panel members, Ms Cyd Ho and Dr Helena Wong.
