Update on clusters of infectious disease cases in New Territories West Cluster
******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of New Territories West Cluster announced the following update today (May 13) regarding earlier announcements by Castle Peak Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital on two clusters of inpatient infection:

Castle Peak Hospital earlier announced a cluster of patients infected with Human Metapneumovirus in a female forensic psychiatric ward. One more 61-year-old patient and a staff member in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Human Metapneumovirus. The patient concerned is being treated under isolation with stable condition. The staff member is currently on sick leave. Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed.

In addition, Tuen Mun Hospital earlier announced a cluster of Multi-Drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) cases in a male Orthopaedics and Traumatology ward. The hospital has continued with the screening procedures and confirmed one more 78-year-old patient as having MDRA. He is now hospitalised under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition.

Infection control measures have already been stepped up in both hospitals according to established guidelines. All patients in the wards concerned are under close surveillance. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
