     The Government announced today (May 5) that Mr Simon Li Tin-chui, Deputy Director-General of Civil Aviation, will assume the post of Director-General of Civil Aviation when Mr Norman Lo Shung-man commences pre-retirement leave on May 19, 2016.

     Commenting on the appointment of Mr Simon Li, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, said, "Mr Li has acquired extensive knowledge in different core functions performed by the Civil Aviation Department, and I am confident that he will rise up to the challenges ahead."

     Speaking of Mr Norman Lo, Mr Cheung said, "Throughout a career lasting almost 40 years, Mr Lo has taken an active part in developing Hong Kong into an international aviation centre and air logistics hub. We wish him a long and happy retirement."

     Brief biographical notes on the two officers are set out below:

Mr Norman Lo Shung-man

    Mr Lo, aged 59, joined the former Medical and Health Department as Student Radiographer in October 1976 and entered the Civil Aviation Department as Student Air Traffic Control Officer in January 1977. He was promoted to Chief Operations Officer in September 1996, to Assistant Director-General of Civil Aviation in December 1997, and to Deputy Director-General of Civil Aviation in May 2002 before being appointed as Director-General of Civil Aviation in April 2004.

Mr Simon Li Tin-chui

     Mr Li, aged 57, joined the Civil Aviation Department as Assistant Operations Officer in February 1983, was promoted to Chief Operations Officer in May 1998 and to Assistant Director-General of Civil Aviation in August 2010, and became Deputy Director-General of Civil Aviation in October 2014.
