The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) today (May 4) announced and presented the Outstanding Staff and Teams Award for 2016. This year, five staff members and five healthcare teams (list of awardees attached) were awarded for their outstanding performance, provision of quality patient-centered care, enhancing team spirit and improving the overall operational effectiveness of the organisation.

Since 1993, the HA has been organising this corporate-wide staff reward and recognition programme annually to commend outstanding staff members and teams. This is the 23rd year of the award programme.

Commending the awarded staff and teams, the HA Chairman, Professor John Leong said, "Not only do they demonstrate commitment and dedication in their work, but also the willingness to walk an extra mile and strive for innovation. They fully embrace the core values of the HA, which are 'people-centred care, professional service, committed staff and team work'. They set great examples for all colleagues to learn from."

The 2016 Outstanding Staff and Team Award Selection Panel was chaired by Mr William Chan, who is a HA Board Member and Chairman of the Human Resources Committee. Mr Chan also spoke at the ceremony. He said,"I can feel the enthusiasm of colleagues from different disciplines. The winners are more than outstanding performers in their professions, they also reach out to contribute selflessly to patients, colleagues, hospitals and even to the whole neighbourhood."

Other members of the selection panel included another Board Member, Mr Wong Kwai-huen; the HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin; the HA Head of Human Resources, Dr Theresa Li; Cluster Chief Executive of New Territories East Cluster, Dr Hung Chi-tim; and 2015 Outstanding Staff Award winner, Dr Sandy Chan, currently General Manager (Nursing) of Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital.

The nominations for the Award this year were overwhelming, with a total of 44 submissions from various divisions of hospitals and the Head Office received. The contribution of participants to the following core values of HA was adopted as selection criteria by the selection panel:
