Update of clustering of infected case of Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A, the spokesperson for the Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok made the following update today (April 30):

     Three more patients (aged 53 to 73) in a female long stay ward and one staff member had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patients and two of them were confirmed positive to Influenza A. The concerned patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition while the concerned staff is on sick leave.

     Admission to the concerned ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the concerned ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
