Maple Crest Development Limited was fined $30,000 at Shatin Magistrates' Courts today (April 29) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance and the Occupational Safety and Health Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involves a fatal accident that occurred on August 11, 2015 at a recreation centre in Tai Po. A security guard entered an underground sewage facility to switch off sewage pipe valves. He was found collapsed inside the facility and subsequently passed away. The Labour Department appeals to all employers of the trade to develop and implement an effective safe system of work for working inside underground sewage facilities, and to enhance the safety training and supervision of workers involved.
