The Government announced today (April 29) the re-appointment of Ms Anna Wu Hung-yuk as Chairperson of the Competition Commission (the Commission) for a term of two years with effect from May 1, 2016.
The Government also announced today the re-appointment of Mr Chan Kwok-wai, Ms Agnes Chan Sui-kuen, Mr Thomas Cheng Kin-hon, Professor Leonard Cheng Kwok-hon, Mr Michael Hui Wah-kit, Mr Kwok Kwok-chuen, Ms Miranda Kwok Pui-fong, Mr Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, Dr Anthony William Seeto Yiu-wai, Professor Suen Wing-chuen, Ms Gilly Wong Fung-han, Mr Simon Wong Kit-lung and Mr Albert Wong Kwai-huen, as well as the new appointment of Mr Samuel Chan Ka-yan and Mrs Ayesha Abbas Macpherson Lau, as members of the Commission for a term of two years with effect from May 1, 2016.
"Ms Anna Wu Hung-yuk has been chairing the Commission since May 2013, during which the Commission has completed the necessary preparatory work for the full commencement of the Competition Ordinance (the Ordinance). We are confident that the Commission will continue to benefit from Ms Wu's experience and leadership in performing its functions," a Government spokesman said.
"We are also grateful to the incumbent members for their continued service on the Commission. With two new members, the Commission will continue to safeguard competition in Hong Kong by effectively enforcing the Ordinance," the spokesman added.
The Commission is established under the Competition Ordinance as an independent statutory body tasked with the functions to investigate into competition-related complaints, and to bring enforcement action before the Competition Tribunal. The Commission also performs such other functions as promoting public understanding of the Ordinance and the benefits to be brought about by competition through public education work, as well as advising the Government on competition matters.
