********************************************************

The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, today (April 27) met the Vice Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Mr Ai Xuefeng, and visited innovative technology enterprises in Shenzhen to foster closer collaboration between the two places in innovation and technology (I&T).

At their meeting, the Vice Mayor and Mr Yang exchanged views on strengthening collaboration in innovation and technology between the two places. Both sides agreed to ride on the opportunities from the National 13th Five-Year Plan and leverage the unique advantages of Shenzhen and Hong Kong to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.

Mr Yang said that Hong Kong and Shenzhen are important I&T collaborators given their physical proximity. Hong Kong can be a "super-connector" with its distinctive advantages at its world-class universities and research and development (R&D) talents, expertise in international standards and platforms, as well as a sound legal system and business environment that integrate with the rest of the world. Apart from serving as a platform for Mainland corporations to "go global", Hong Kong also brings together top-notch technology and talents and facilitates I&T corporations from Hong Kong, the Mainland and the rest of the world to collaborate and engage in R&D.

While in Shenzhen, Mr Yang visited two innovative technology enterprises, with the first stop at Huawei and the second stop at Kuang-Chi.

The Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms Annie Choi, also joined him on the visit.
