Cluster of Influenza A cases at Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok made the following announcement today (April 21):

     Five patients (aged 55 to 84) in a male long-stay ward had presented with fever and respiratory symptoms since April 16. Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients and two of them were confirmed positive for Influenza A (H3). The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     Admission to the ward concerned has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
