To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong Police College and the 65th Anniversary of Hong Kong Police Band, the Police, in collaboration with The Community Chest of Hong Kong, is staging two charity concerts at Hong Kong Cultural Centre today (April 19) and tomorrow (April 20). The event is also part of the ¡§Appreciate Hong Kong¡¨ Campaign.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung, said that the Police Force is a caring organisation that is totally committed to fulfilling its statutory duties, as well as demonstrating its keen sense of social responsibility. The Police Concert is one of the numerous examples of how the Force collaborates with different sectors to serve the city, demonstrating the essence of its commitment to serving the community with pride and care.
Performing in the concerts are the Hong Kong Police Band, renowned saxophonist Professor Kenneth Tse, Assistant Principal Percussionist of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Mr Ronald Chin, Yaumati Kaifong Association School Choir, singers and artists.
The Police Pipe Band and Silver Band will present a rendition of well-known tunes, while Professor Tse will perform two famous tunes, namely ¡§Oblivion¡¨ and ¡§Madrid Inspiration¡¨. Mr Chin will present ¡§Triumphal Song of Reservoir¡¨ and ¡§Capture the Golden Harvest¡¨, and singers Leon Lai and Hacken Lee will also perform.
With tremendous support from donors, over 3,200 concert tickets were sold, $3.8 million raised by the event will go to The Community Chest of Hong Kong to support children with special education needs.
In addition, a free matinee show was held this afternoon for more than 1,300 members of underprivileged groups, non-governmental organisations, Senior Police Call and Junior Police Call, as well as primary and secondary students to share the joy brought by music.
