********************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, continued his visit to Beijing today (April 6).

In the morning, Mr Cheung visited the Palace Museum and met with the Deputy Director, Mr Lou Wei, to learn more about the future development of the museum and tour the museum's facilities. A visit to this important national facility was also arranged for the participants of a national studies programme held last year by the Civil Service Bureau (CSB). At noon, Mr Cheung attended a lunch hosted by the Deputy Director of the museum.

In the afternoon, Mr Cheung visited Tsinghua University and Peking University. The CSB has been organising national studies programmes in co-operation with Tsinghua University and Peking University since 1993 and 2004 respectively to deepen civil servants' understanding of the Mainland and its latest developments.

In the evening, Mr Cheung met with Hong Kong people now working and studying in Beijing to better understand their present situation. He also updated them on the latest developments in Hong Kong.

Mr Cheung will continue his visit tomorrow (April 7) by calling on the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and meeting with senior officials.
