Modern Terminals Limited, Mitsuizosen Technoservice Hongkong Limited and Win Team Construction Engineering Limited were fined $45,000, $45,000 and $80,000 respectively at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (April 5) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department (LD).
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on May 27, 2014 in a container terminal in Tsing Yi. A maintenance worker was crushed to death by the wheel of a quayside gantry crane when applying lubrication oil to the wheels of the crane. The LD appeals to all proprietors of the trade to develop and implement an effective safe system of work for maintenance of cranes, and enhance the safety training and supervision to workers involved.
