Update on new case bookings for child health services by Non-eligible Persons at Maternal and Child Health Centres
*********************************************************

The Department of Health (DH) today (March 31) announced that a hotline (3796 0861) will start operation tomorrow (April 1) for new case bookings for child health services by Non-eligible Persons (NEPs) at Maternal and Child Health Centres (MCHCs).

"The hotline is aimed at lightening the burden of MCHCs' services through better utilisation of manpower resources. In addition, the arrangement facilitates a better telephone booking service for the Eligible Persons (EPs)," a spokesman for the DH said.

This hotline will operate from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm on weekdays (excluding public holidays). It will start to accept appointment bookings for each month on the first working day of that month.

Under the quota system for NEPs, only 120 new cases per month, with a range of two to seven per centre in the 31 MCHCs, have been allocated for children who are NEPs. The quota for April 2016 at some MCHCs is already full as appointments had been given to NEP children prior to implementation of the quota system (see attachment). The monthly booking situation for NEPs at MCHCs will also be uploaded to the website of the Family Health Service (www.fhs.gov.hk) and updated as necessary.

"Services for EPs including Hong Kong residents are not affected. They may make appointments with their preferred MCHC either in person or by calling the MCHC concerned," the spokesman added.

"We will closely monitor the utilisation of services by NEPs and may adjust the quota or withhold new case bookings of NEPs if necessary," the spokesman stressed.
