Flowers blossom at green housing estates in spring (with photos)

The Housing Department (HD) attaches much importance to greening, which not only provides a pleasant and relaxing natural environment for tenants at public rental housing (PRH) estates but also helps reduce heat and address the problem of pollution.

There are around 100,000 trees at the PRH estates managed by the HD. Where possible, each PRH estate will have green coverage of at least 20 per cent of the total site area and the coverage will increase to 30 per cent for larger sites of more than 2 hectares, with at least one tree for every 15 flats, an HD spokesman said today (March 26).

"We have been striving to enhance the green coverage of our estates through more planting, and adding new features such as green roofs. We have also established community gardens at several estates," the spokesman said.

After years of effort, many gardens are filled with colourful blossoms during the blooming season, adding charm to the estates and enlivening their appearance. The spokesman urged tenants and visitors to treasure the flowers and trees when enjoying their beauty.
